Continental Europe's entire hands-on capybara offering, as far as we can establish, is this.

Why this entry exists

Britain has six capybara experiences. The rest of Europe — Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Czechia, all of it — has capybaras in plenty of zoos and, as far as we can find, exactly one place that will sell you time with them. This is it.

The format is the standard German Tierbegegnung — you get closer than general visitors, a keeper explains the animals, and a souvenir photo is usually on offer. It can only be booked online through the zoo's shop.

What we could not confirm

We could not read a current price, duration or age limit from the booking shop, so this is marked unverified. Everything above is the shape of the thing, not a quote.

If you want published numbers in Europe, the UK parks are where they are. Wingham puts £80 and £140 on the page and includes park entry with it.

Good to know

  • Capybaras are on display in many European zoos. Almost none of them will let you into the enclosure.

Only here, as far as we can establish. Zoo Berlin runs a bookable capybara encounter. Everywhere else in mainland Europe is viewing from the path.
How much is it?
Not confirmed. It is sold through the zoo's online experience shop and priced on top of admission.
Where else in Europe should I look?
The UK. Six parks run capybara experiences there — Wingham in Kent is the best value because it includes park entry.
