Hours

Google lists it as opening at 11:00. Beyond that the hours are not consistently published, so the Instagram feed is still the safer check. It shares its space with TuTuTu Studio, so the room is doing two jobs.

Montreal's capybara cafe is essentially a very cute takeout window with a plushie problem.

What it is

A small counter in Shaughnessy Village doing Korean-cafe-style drinks — foamy Viennese coffees in pistachio, taro and matcha, colourful coconut-based lattes, caffeine-free refreshers. Nothing tops eight dollars. The room is soft-lit, buried in capybara plushies, and sells keychains, tote bags and stickers alongside the drinks.

It shares the space with TuTuTu Studio, which is part of why there is almost nowhere to sit. Two or three seats, realistically. This is a takeout operation with decoration.

What it is not

There are no live capybaras. Montreal has no venue with live capybaras, and Quebec's exotic animal rules make one unlikely.

It is also not a place to sit and work, or meet someone, or spend an hour. Set that expectation and it is a good ten minutes. Set the other one and you will be standing on Sainte-Catherine with a taro latte wondering where the chairs are.

What visitors actually say

Pulled from Google Maps, trimmed, and left alone otherwise — including the complaints. We do not take the ratings as gospel and neither should you.

They post more than we do

The hours, the seasonal drinks and the merch drops all live here, because they do not reliably live anywhere else. Check it before you walk over.

Practical

Hours are the weak point — they are not consistently published anywhere, and the Instagram feed is the only reliable source. Check it the morning of rather than trusting a listing.

It sits on Sainte-Catherine West in Shaughnessy Village, walkable from downtown and Concordia, which is most of its customer base.

Good to know

  • Two or three seats. Treat it as takeout — the room is shared with TuTuTu Studio.
  • No live capybaras, in the cafe or anywhere else in Quebec.
  • Nothing on the menu is over $8.
  • Google says it opens at 11:00; the rest of the week is patchily listed. Check Instagram before you go.
