Why it earns a place here
Most of Japan's capybara circuit is a commitment — Izu is a couple of hours south, Nasu is two hours north, Nagasaki and Aso are on Kyushu. Mother Farm is in Chiba, across the bay from Tokyo, and does both halves of the Japanese capybara experience — hands-on petting, and a winter onsen.
It is also 250 hectares of working farm park with sheep, cattle and flower fields, so the capybaras are a component rather than the concept. Bring that expectation and it is a good day; bring a capybara-only expectation and it is a long walk.
