The north of England's capybara option, and the cheapest in the country.
What you get for £45
Ten to twenty minutes with the capybaras, ages eight and over, with zoo admission charged separately. It is the shortest slot of the UK options and also the cheapest by a distance — Wingham is £80 for one person and Hertfordshire adds a day ticket on top of its fee.
Wild Discovery brands itself as "the zoo that interacts with you", and the capybara encounter sits in a wider menu of animal encounters, so it is easy to stack two or three into one visit if the animal is not the only point.
Where it sits
Preston puts this within reach of Manchester, Liverpool and most of the north west, which is otherwise a blank on the UK capybara map. Everything else is in Kent, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire or Leicestershire.
If you are travelling specifically for a capybara, the extra money at Wingham buys three times the contact time and includes park entry. If you are already in Lancashire, this is obviously the answer.
Good to know

- £45 per person, but zoo admission is charged on top.
