What to expect

Coastal Wilds is the Delaware sister park to Louisiana's Magnolia Wilds, both formerly under the Barn Hill Preserve name. You get a guided tour of 30-plus species with the capybara encounter available as a feeding add-on, a short drive from the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

For the Northeast, this is the closest real hands-on capybara option without flying to Florida. Expect the same rural-preserve feel as its Louisiana sibling rather than a polished attraction.

Confirm before you drive

This is the thinnest listing here on published detail. Hours are seasonal and were not clearly posted at the time of writing, and pricing for the tour plus encounter was hard to pin down – so treat everything as unconfirmed until you check.

Call ahead on (302) 829-1548 or check the site, and specifically confirm the capybara encounter is running on your date. It is an add-on, not a daily guarantee, and you do not want to stand in Frankford wondering if the capybara is even out.

Make a day of it

Because it is close to the coast, it pairs naturally with a beach day rather than being a destination on its own. Go in expecting a low-key detour, keep expectations loose given the thin info, and you will not be disappointed.
